Teaching Yoga to Refugees and PTSD Survivors – an experience sharing weekend

May 20, 2017 @ 9:30 am - May 21, 2017 @ 5:00 pm

£60

This weekend will bring together yoga teachers who have been running classes for refugees or who otherwise teach students suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The aim of the weekend is to share experiences about teaching yoga practices in a manner appropriate to trauma survivors – and that allows healing to unfold naturally.

Practical sessions on asana, pranayama, yoga nidra and meditation will be led by experienced teachers. Facilitated group discussions will take place on the following topics:

  • What is special about teaching refugees and others suffering from trauma?
  • How yoga helps recovery from trauma and eases stress, insomnia, depression and anxiety
  • Connecting with the body and releasing tensions
  • Freeing up the breath
  • The importance of deep relaxation in letting go of trauma
  • Mind management through meditation

As part of the weekend, there will also be karma yoga, including preparing meals together, and a Mahamrityunjaya havan.

Substantial interest is expected and space is limited. Let us know why you wish to attend as priority will go to yoga teachers already working with refugees or other PTSD sufferers.

The contribution for the weekend is £60 to cover simple accommodation and meals.
