Teaching Yoga to Refugees and PTSD Survivors – an experience sharing weekend

April 28, 2018 @ 9:30 am - April 29, 2018 @ 5:00 pm

There is a growing interest in the UK and elsewhere in offering yoga to refugees and others suffering from PTSD. This weekend is an opportunity to develop links between yoga teachers and psychotherapists who are involved in this work, while developing out understanding of what works. The aim is to share experiences about teaching yoga practices in a manner appropriate to trauma survivors – and that allows healing to unfold naturally.

Practical sessions on asana, pranayama, yoga nidra and meditation will be led by experienced teachers. Facilitated group discussions will take place on the following topics:

  • What is special about teaching refugees and others suffering from trauma?
  • How yoga helps recovery from trauma.
  • Connecting with the body, freeing up the breath and releasing tensions.
  • The importance of deep relaxation in letting go of trauma.
  • Mind management.

As part of the weekend, there will also be karma yoga, including preparing meals together, and a Mahamrityunjaya havan.

Substantial interest is expected and space is limited. Let us know why you wish to attend as priority will go to yoga teachers already working with refugees or other PTSD sufferers.

The contribution for the weekend is £60 to cover simple accommodation and meal.
