Retreat with Monika and Vanessa

July 5, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - July 7, 2019 @ 4:00 pm

£185

Unique ashram retreat in the Sussex countryside has been postponed but please register your interest.

Immerse yourself in the simplicity of ashram living at the Patanjali Yoga Centre in Battle with two dedicated and experienced teachers of Yoga – Monika and Vanessa. The peaceful setting of the ashram provides an opportunity to relax and re-energise whilst at the same time deepen your understanding of the ancient teachings on the Science of Yoga.

We will be looking at the importance of maintaining a healthy life style by keeping the physical body flexible and strong through the asanas whilst examining their effect on the inner systems of the fascia, lymph, hormones, digestion etc. Our body is our vehicle (chariot) in which resides our inner essence (the Self). On a physical level our chariot needs to be well maintained and oiled (through movement) in order to make this journey inwards.

The focus of the retreat will be ‘Self rides in the chariot of the body’ taken from the Bhagavad Gita C6.25. This beautiful image is an ideal teaching aide to understanding the connection between the Self, intellect, mind, senses and sense objects.

£185 (discounts for members) (Hours can be used for BWY self accreditation)

Cost includes accommodation and vegetarian meals

More about the teachers:

Monika:

After practising yoga your many years and having been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 Monika was introduced to Howard Kent at the “Yoga for Health Foundation in Ickwell Bury”. She studied there and completed her General and Remedial Teacher Training in 2003. She taught yoga in London and Hertfordshire, till she moved down to Sussex in 2004 and started teaching from the ashram under the guidance of Sri Swami Indrananda till his death in 2007. She still holds regular weekly classes there.

She has also studied the Philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita and Philosophers of the World with the London School of Economic Science in London and Brighton, as well as the London School of Meditation.

These teachings changed her life giving her a deeper understanding into yoga. She completed her Post Graduate Teacher Training & Therapy Degree with the Devon School of Yoga in 2017 studying in particular the body-mind communication and their interdependency. Her greatest wish is to pass on what she has learnt about the Science of Yoga.

Vanessa:

Vanessa teaches the Science of Yoga as laid out in the Patanjali Yoga Sutras. Yoga is taking what you learn from your practice into your daily life – Ease of action. For Ease of Being Vanessa teaches meditation techniques and activation of the pranic life force, together with the sounding of ancient Sanskrit teachings (the Science of Sound). For over 20years she has been under the guidance of a respected Advaitic Sanskrit scholar, who comes from the lineage of the Param Para. His teachers being Swami Rama and Shankaracharya Shandanda Saravati.

Vanessa teaches from what she has learnt (her 3 books cover this journey so far). She believes everyone has the innate ability to self heal and to enhance their own well being. She encourages Self empowerment, bringing these teachings to life and making them practical in an experiential way.

The beautiful imagery of the Self riding the chariot of the body encapsulates the various aspects of our inner mechanismings work together. The body is our chariot wherein the Self is seated, the buddhi (our intellect) holds and guides the reins – manas ( the mind); the reins are attached to the five senses which in turn are in touch with the sense objects – the road. This practical imagery allows us to work with these in order to gain a deeper meaning of living our life through yoga.
